FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A 12-goal outburst in the second quarter led Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse past visiting Hampton, 26-7, in the Stags' CAA opener on Saturday on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium. Sixteen Stags contributed a point in the victory, led by a six-point day for
Will Consoli and a career-high four goals from
Justin Brown.
"We're still talking about that full 60 minutes of execution and performing at a high level. We're not there yet, but today was a positive step in that direction, which is what we needed to start our CAA schedule," said Head Coach
Andrew Baxter.
Brown led all scorers with four goals and dished out an assist for a five-point afternoon.
Devin Lampron netted a hat trick with two assists, while
Rob Moore turned in a hatty of his own along with one helper. In addition to four assists, Consoli was one of four Stags to score a pair of goals.
Jackson Newell had two goals with two assists, while
Kevin Dolan and
Jeremiah Wade each scored twice.
KJ Delane matched Consoli's four assists and scored a goal.
Logan Bryant tacked on one goal and one assist. The Stags also got single goals from
John Okupski,
Thomas Connolly,
Andrew Kasten,
Luke Patchen,
Bryce Hrubiec, and
Austin McClintic.
Jake Gilbert rounded out Fairifeld's 16 assists with one helper on the day.
The Stags stayed on the attack courtesy of a 29-for-37 day at the faceoff X. Six players contributed to that showing, led by
Daniel Davis with a 10-for-14 day and six ground balls.
Mark Durling was a perfect 7-for-7 with five grounders, and
Jonathan Lewis went 6-for-8 with three ground balls.
A trio of debuting faceoff men completed the effort. Andew Tilton went 3-for-5, picking up the ground ball for all three of his wins.
Andrew Scully added 2-for-2 day on the spot, and
Chris Sloma was 1-for-1. The faceoff dominance fueled Fairfield toa 48-25 ground ball advantage.
In addition to scoring a goal,
Andrew Kasten paced the defense with four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Landon Whitney made his first start as a Stag in the cage, working the first half to earn the win.
Owen Hirsch made four stops with one goal allowed in the third quarter, and
Walker Hunter made three saves with three goals conceded in the final frame.
Malik Wood had six points for Hampton with three goals and three assists.

"We still have a lot of lacrosse left to play together, and I'm looking forward to what we can accomplish in that time."
The CAA slate sends Fairfield on the road next Saturday, when the Stags head to Drexel on March 21 for a noon faceoff with the Dragons.
