WEST POINT, N.Y. — Fairfield University Women's Tennis dropped a 4-1 decision at Army West Point on Saturday at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center. The Stags secured their point with a singles victory from
Nicolette Loeffler at the No. 5 position.
The Stags stand at 0-4 after the loss. Army West Point reels off its ninth consecutive win to improve to 9-2.
Army gained the early advantage by claiming the doubles point. In the top flight, Fairfield's
Maeve Cassidy and
Victoria Mandma were defeated 6-4, while
Sophia Harris and
Sarah Liu fell 6-3 at No. 2. The match at No. 3 doubles featuring
Maria Gell and
Dylin Pizzutello was unfinished with a the Stags' pair in front, 4-3.
The singles win for Loeffler came by a 6-3, 7-5 tally.
In other singles action, Mandma competed at No. 1 and concluded with a 4-6, 1-6 result.
Anna Neyestani, playing No. 2 singles, faced a tight match but finished 5-7, 3-6. On court No. 4,
Regina Herrera was defeated 2-6, 0-6.
Matches involving Harris at No. 3 singles and
Lily Malinowski at No. 6 singles remained unfinished. Harris was leading 7-6, 3-2 when play was halted, and Malinowski had a scoreline of 6-1, 3-6, 0-3.
Fairfield Women's Tennis returns to action on Friday, Feb. 13 at Towson.
