FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team completed a home weekend sweep as they took down Iona 82-46 on Saturday. Three different Stags netted double-figures led by
Cyanne Coe's 16 on 8-for-10 shooting. As a team, the Stags dished out 23 assists on just seven turnovers.
"I'm really proud of how we shared the ball," Head Coach
Carly Thibault-DuDonis said. "Twenty-three assists on seven turnovers, I'd love to see that day in and day out. I liked how we stretched the game defensively by getting a few more stops. Just continuing to solidify our identity as a team that creates great shots for one another and moves the ball and is harder to guard because of it."
The Stags (20-4; 14-1 MAAC) used their efficient offense to shoot 49 percent from the field and 71 percent from inside the 3-point arc.
Coe was at the forefront of that efficiency as she went 8-for-10 from inside and increased her season percentage to 68 percent against conference opponents.
She put an emphasis on Fairfield's biggest quarter as she connected on a last second layup to put the Stags up 31.
Nine different Stags scored a point with seven different student-athletes dishing out an assist.
Kaety L'Amoreaux led the Stags with seven dimes and also led the defensive stand with three steals.
Fairfield held an opponent to 50 points or fewer for the eighth time in their last 12 contests. Fairfield drew five charges, led by three from
Lauren Beach.
The Stags will now hit the road for two big games, starting with the trek to face Mount St. Mary's on Thursday night at 7pm.
