Stags Lock Down Mount St. Mary’s

EMMITSBURG, Md. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team's defense held Mount St. Mary's to just 43 points as they begin their road trip with a 69-43 victory over the Mount. Meghan Andersen and Jillian Huerter each connected on five 3-pointers as the Stags connected on 15 triples on a 50 percent clip.

"Defense travels!" Head Coach Carly Thibault-DuDonis said. "I love the consistency with which we have been defending as of late and how that translates to scoring in flow on offense. We don't see a lot of zone, but they are really good at what they do and I thought our team did a nice job of executing our zone offense to create great looks from the perimeter."

The win brings Fairfield's overall record to 21-4 with a 15-1 MAAC mark while posting their fourth-straight victory.

The Stags showed their depth with eight different players scoring and nine tallying an assist.

Fairfield held the lead all game long with Andersen and Huerter starting the scoring with a 3-pointer each. The Stags led by as many as 14 in the opening period, grabbing their largest lead on a Milon van Vliet triple. In her first game back in over a month, van Vliet netted nine points on 4-for-8 shooting.

The Stags would hit on their first four 3-point attempts in the second half to increase their lead to 22. Fairfield got their long-range shots from four different shooters with: Andersen, Kaety L'Amoreaux, Sydni Scott, and Huerter all connecting.

L'Amoreaux would put on the finishing touches in the quarter with a 4-point play, her second of the season.

The reigning MAAC and All-Met Player of the Week, Andersen led the Stags with 17 points on five made 3-pointers. Huerter added 15 while going 5-for-7 from deep.

On the defensive side, the Stags held their ninth opponent in their last 13 games to 50 points or fewer. Fairfield also held the Mount to just one 3-pointer and opponents are shooting under 15 percent from deep in Fairfield's last seven wins.

Fairfield will have a quick turnaround before their road showdown against Quinnipiac on Saturday at 4pm.
