L’Amoreaux Drops 30, Stags Take Down Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, Conn. – Big time players live for the big-time moments. Enter Kaety L'Amoreaux. The junior dropped 30 points leading the Fairfield University Women's Basketball team to their biggest win of the season, a 75-63 road victory over Quinnipiac on Valentine's Day. With the win, the Stags move to a first-place tie with the Bobcats with both teams holding identical 16-1 records in the MAAC.

"Such an awesome win," Head Coach Carly Thibault-DuDonis said. "I loved how gritty, tough, and connected we were on both sides of the ball. You could see it in their faces that they weren't going to be denied today."

L'Amoreaux recorded her 12th game of the season with 20 or more points and her second 30-plus point performance. She went 10-for-17 from the field and 4-for-8 from long-range.

She was followed in double-figures by Lauren Beach who finished with 12 on a perfect 5-for-5 showing. The Road Runner is now shooting 78 percent for the season.

Fairfield's blew the game open with their biggest run, an 11-0 spurt in the fourth to turn a one-point lead into a more comfortable 12-point advantage. Four different players scored during the run with Sydni Scott highlighting the run with a triple.

The Stags took their first lead of the game with just 2:11 left in the first half as L'Amoreaux scored six-straight points for the Stags including the go-ahead layup. The junior tied the game at 22-22 with a 3-pointer and then gave Fairfield their first advantage with a bucket. After Quinnipiac tied the game, L'Amoreaux once again put the Stags in front with another layup. Beach ended the half with a field goal to put the halftime score at 28-24.

Fairfield would hold the lead the rest of the way. Scott connected on a triple and L'Amoreaux followed with a layup to give Fairfield a seven-point lead in the third. Sydney Ryan hit back-to-back threes to make it a one-point game.

The two teams would trade baskets until a mini 5-0 run with a Jillian Huerter 3-pointer and a L'Amoreaux layup raised the lead back to seven.

"She's such a competitor," Coach Carly said of L'Amoreaux. "She's the first in the gym to work on whatever she wants to get better at. Her and I talked before this game of letting the game flow to her. The game comes so easy to her when she just lets it flow. I thought she did a great job of letting the ball come back to her and then creating. She carried us offensively today."

The win improves Fairfield's overall record to 22-4 and puts them in a first-place tie with the Bobcats with a 16-1 mark.

The Stags shot an even 50 percent from the field.

Fairfield will play two of their next three games at home, hosting Saint Peter's on Thursday night at 7pm.
