Stags Shutdown Saint Peter’s

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team held the Saint Peter's Peacocks to 30 points, the lowest scoring output by an opponent this season, leading to a 62-30 victory at Leo D. Mahoney Arena on Thursday night. Fairfield surrendered just 12 made field goals on a 29 percent clip while forcing 28 turnovers, matching a season-high.

"For us to be as good as we are we have to be a two-way team," Head Coach Carly Thibault-DuDonis said. "On a night where our shots weren't falling it was nice that we were still getting shots and turning them over. When we're really, really good both sides are working together. We really relied on our defense tonight."

On the offensive side, the Stags had four players in double-figures led by Meghan Andersen's 15. Kaety L'Amoreaux followed with 13 while Cyanne Coe and Sydni Scott each finished with 12.

Fairfield connected on 11 made 3-pointers, bringing their season total to 326, setting a new MAAC single-season record which was set by Quinnipiac during the 2014-15 season. It also marks the 56th time they have hit double-digit triples in the four seasons under Coach Carly.

The story of the game was the Fairfield defense, however, as they set a season-low for points allowed (30) while matching season-lows for opponents with 12 made field goals and 28 turnovers forced.

That defensive pressure was shown in the first quarter as the Stags allowed just two points while forcing 11 miscues. In fact, the Peacocks attempted just three field goals in the first 10 minutes.

Fairfield held Saint Peter's scoreless for a seven-minute stretch as the Stags jumped out to a 18-3 lead. The Stags also held them off the scoreboard for the final 6:20 of the game, forcing six turnovers during that span.

Over the past nine wins, the Stags are averaging 2.2 3-pointers allowed on a 16 percent clip.

With the win, the Stags move to 17-1 in conference play at 23-4 overall.

The Stags will embark on their final regular season road trip when they head to Siena for a Saturday afternoon game at 7pm.
