Stags Open 2026 Season at Rafferty Stadium, Friday at 2 PM

Fairfield hosts URI to start the spring campaign

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse will open the 2026 season this Friday, Feb. 6 when the University of Rhode Island makes its first-ever visit to Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium. Opening draw is slated for 2 p.m.
 
Admission is free for all fans to all Fairfield Women's Lacrosse regular season home games this season.
 
Fairfield University Stags (11-8, 7-1 MAAC in 2025)
  • Fairfield is coming off of a 2025 MAAC Championship season and seventh consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament.
  • The Stags were selected first in the MAAC Preseason Poll.
  • Kelly Haggerty was named MAAC Preseason Player of the Year. She was joined on the Preseason All-MAAC Team by midfielder Haley Burns, defender Katherine Shammas, and draw specialist Brynn Donnelly.
  • Haggerty scored a team-leading 47 goals last season en route to 59 points.
  • Donnelly rewrote the Fairfield record book at the draw position. She enters her senior campaign already owning the program records for draw controls in a game (18), season (149), and career (274).
 
University of Rhode Island Rams (8-8, 4-6 Atlantic 10 in 2025)
  • Rhode Island went 8-8 overall and 4-6 in the Atlantic 10 in its first Division I season in 2025.
  • The Rams were picked sixth of 10 teams in this spring's A-10 Preseason Poll.
  • Caralie Basuel, who scored 48 goals with eight assists last season en route to Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year laurels, was selected to the Preseason All-Atlantic 10 Team.
  • URI Head Coach Jenna Slowey and Assistant Coach Riley Smith are both Fairfield graduates who played for the Stags and Head Coach Laura Field.
 
All-Time Series
  • Friday is the first-ever meeting between the Stags and Rams.
  • Fairfield did not play any Atlantic 10 opponents in 2025.
  • The Rams' inaugural season included a home win over Merrimack – the program's first-ever Division I game and victory – and a home loss to Rider.
