GREENVILLE, R.I.-It was a tough night for the Fairfield women's tennis team in Rhode Island on Saturday night, as the Stags (1-5) were swept by the host Bryant University Bulldogs (5-3), 7-0. Saturday's victory extends the Bulldogs' winning streak to five consecutive matches.
Bryant won the doubles point on Saturday with victories in the number one and three flights by identical 6-4 scores, as the Fairfield duo of
Maria Gell and
Anna Neyestani posted a 6-0 victory in the number two slot over the Bulldogs' pair of Lisa Dugec and Lucia Pino.
The hosts then went on to sweep all six singles flights in straight sets, as
Victoria Mandma fell 0-6, 5-7 at number one to Yahil Noy.
Sophia Harris was defeated at number two, 2-6, 3-6, and Neyestani battled at number three for the Stags but also went down by a 3-6, 6-7 score.
Bryant completed the singles sweep as Maria Jose Hernandez defeated
Nicolette Loeffler in the fourth spot, 2-6, 1-6; Mila Martinez topped
Lily Malinowski, at five, 0-6, 6-4 and Dugec stopped
Maeve Cassidy in the sixth position, 1-6, 0-6.
Tomorrow evening's match (Sunday, February 22) versus Stony Brook has been postponed due to the incoming inclement winter weather, so the Fairfield women's tennis team will return to the courts on Sunday, March 1 when the Stags host Hofstra at the Tennis Club of Trumbull. First serve is set for 5:00 p.m.
