DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Fairfield University Baseball team hit three home runs with a pair from
TJ Schmalzle and a two-run shot by
Matthew Bucciero but it was not enough as the Stags fell to Davidson 8-6 in the series finale.
Fairfield jumped out to a 3-0 lead as they plated three in the third.
Luke Nomura started the scoring with a RBI single through the right side, followed by a Bucciero blast to right center.
The Stags would run that score to 4-1 with Schmalzle beginning his big day with a run-scoring single to left.
Davidson would score five unanswered runs, however, to bring a 6-4 lead into the seventh.
Schmalzle would try to bring the Stags back into the game with solo homers in the seventh and the ninth but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
Schmalzle led the Stags with three hits and three RBI. Bucciero and
Connor Scanlan each added a pair of base knocks.
The game was the series final between the two teams with the game originally scheduled for tomorrow canceled due to inclement weather.
Fairfield will next head to Elon for a three-game set next weekend.
