First Road Test Sends Stags to Hofstra, Saturday at Noon

The Stags and Pride both enter the contest at 2-1

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – After opening the 2026 season with three straight games on campus, Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse hits the road for the first time with a Saturday, Feb. 21 trip to Hofstra. Opening draw on Long Island is set for noon.

Fans are reminded that Saturday's game will be held on Captains Field – the Hofstra soccer field – due to construction at Shuart Stadium.

The Fairfield University Stags (2-1, 0-0 MAAC)
  • The Stags capped their homestand at 2-1 with a 9-5 victory over Boston University on Saturday.
  • Haley Burns was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week after tallying four goals, four caused turnovers, and five ground balls in the win over the Terriers.
  • Offensively, Tessa Caputo has posted a team-leading 10 points through three games, comprised of three goals and a MAAC-best seven assists.
  • Burns, Kelly Haggerty, and Mary Henry share the team lead with six goals apiece.
  • Whitney Robinson has started all three games in the cage, recording a .514 save percentage and a 7.20 goals-against average.

The Hofstra University Pride (2-1, 0-0 CAA)
  • Hofstra is in a season-opening stretch of five consecutive games against MAAC opponents. To date, the Pride is 2-1 with an opening day loss at Siena followed by wins over Manhattan and Quinnipiac.
  • Hofstra will visit Marist next Wednesday after Saturday's clash with the Stags.
  • Kayleigh Bender and Nikki Mennella share the CAA lead with 15 points apiece.
  • Mennella also leads the conference with 12 goals, while Bender has posted nine goals and six assists.

Series History

  • The teams also played from 1997-03 – Fairfield's first seven years as a varsity program – with then-America East powerhouse Hofstra winning all seven meetings.
