DAVIDSON, N.C. – The reigning MAAC Pitcher of the Week
Ben Alekson had another impressive start allowing just one run, none earned, through six innings but he was out-dueled by Davidson's pitching duo as the Fairfield University Baseball team fell 1-0 in the series opener.
Davidson scored the only run of the game with a two-out RBI single in the third, plating an unearned run.
Alekson struck out six Wildcats in his six innings, scattering eight hits and two walks. Davidson's pitching duo of Wilson Perkins and Ed Hall shut down the Fairfield bats who tallied five hits, all singles.
Payten Wawruck and
TJ Schmalzle opened up the third frame with back-to-back base knocks but Perkins was able to get out of trouble by retiring three-straight.
JP Kuczik led the Fairfield offense with a pair of hits.
The two teams will play in the middle game of the series on Saturday at 1:30pm.
