EDISON, N.J. – Haley Burns has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Defensive Player of the Week. Burns controlled the midfield in a standout defensive effort for Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse in Saturday's 9-5 victory over Boston University.
The Stags went 1-1 for the week, highlighted by Saturday's win over the Terriers. Burns' role in the defensive stand included five caused turnovers and four ground balls as Fairfield limited BU – which had aggregated 37 goals in its first two games – to just five tallies total on the day. Burns was also Fairfield's leader on the offensive end with four goals, including the game-winner, in the triumph.
In Fairfield's 2-1 start to the season, Burns has posted six goals, eight caused turnovers, and seven ground balls. She is a two-time All-MAAC Second Team honoree in her career and a 2026 Preseason All-MAAC selection.
Up next, the Stags hit the road for the first time in 2026 for a Saturday, Feb. 21 visit from Hofstra. Opening draw on the Island is slated for noon.
