SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Fairfield University men's and women's swimming and diving programs dropped their first dual meet of the season to Bryant University. The men's team fell by a 17Zo4-88 score while the women's squad dropped the decision by a 165.5-96.5 count.
Each Fairfield team had a double winner in
Balazs Ament and Zoe Williamson, accounting for four of the Stags' seven individual wins. Ament picked up his first win in the 100 breaststroke, timing out in 56.86, and followed with a victory in the 200 breaststroke, recording a time of 2:06.53. Williamson garnered the best time in the 50 free (24.40) and the 100 free (53.39).
In addition to Ament and Williamson, three other Stags touched the wall first. Gracie Lowney picked up a win in the 200 free with a time of 1:54.58 while Tone Sandsjo garnered the best time in the 100 breaststroke by completing the distance in 1:03.66.
Luca Sandri capped the first-place swims for the Stags, taking the 50 free in 21.40.
Several additional Fairfield student-athletes collected second-place finishes.
Bobby Regan was runner-up to Ament in the 100 breast (58.34) and the 200 breast (2:08.29). He also picked up silver in the 200 IM by swimming the course in 1:55.03.
Natasha DePree (10:37.49) and
Oskar Plotnik (10:03.54) also secured second-place in their respective 1000 freestyle events.
Aidan Schnapf tallied a time of 1:43.89 in the 200 free for second place while Ayva Christie garnered the runner up position in the 100 back (58.94).
The Fairfield University men's and women's swimming programs will return to the pool on October 17 when the Stags will host Providence College at the RecPlex pool. The diving events will begin at 10 am while the swimming events will commence at 1 pm. The Providence meet is the second of three straight dual meets for both Fairfield swimming and diving programs.
