FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team dropped their first MAAC game of the season as they fell to the Quinnipiac Bobcats 72-58, snapping their 21-game home winning streak. Four different Stags reached double-figures in scoring led by
Cyanne Coe's 14 points on 7-for-9 shooting.
Quinnipiac stifled the Stags from the 3-point line as Fairfield shot just 23 percent from behind the arc, connecting on a season-low five triples.
Fairfield trailed by double-figures for most of the second quarter before
Meghan Andersen hit a 3-pointer with three seconds left to put the score at 33-26 going into the locker room.
The Stags would cut that deficit to five on a quick 4-0 spurt in the third quarter capped by two
Kaety L'Amoreaux free throws.
Quinnipiac would use an 8-0 run late in the third to put their lea to as many as 14.
Fairfield had one last fight as back-to-back 3-pointers by
Jillian Huerter put the Stags within seven at 63-56 with four minutes left to play.
Andersen picked up a block on the defensive end to get the ball back, but Fairfield would miss two shots on that possession and Karson Martin answered with a 3-pointer to put the Bobcats back up double-figures.
Despite shooting 23 percent from 3-point range, Fairfield found some success inside by shooting 53 percent from inside the arc.
Lauren Beach led the efficient shooting with a 5-for-5 night.
Fairfield's loss was just their second against MAAC competition in 58 tries.
The Stags are back in action on Saturday when they visit crosstown rivals Sacred Heart at 2pm.
