HOPEWELL, N.J. – Fairfield University Women's Basketball Head Coach
Carly Thibault-DuDonis is one of 10 coaches across the country to be named to the Kathy Delaney-Smith Mid-Major Coach of the Year Midseason Watch List as announced by the WBCA. Coach Carly has led the Stags to another successful season which includes a 17-3 overall record and an unblemished 11-0 mark in the MAAC. It is the third-straight season she has earned a spot on the list.
Coach Carly has kept the Stags as one of the best mid-major programs in the country. This season, the Stags have earned road wins against Richmond and Villanova, both representing 'Quad I' wins. Fairfield also boasted a victory of American Athletic Conference (AAC) Preseason favorites South Florida on a neutral court.
In the MAAC, Coach Carly has helped the Stags to a perfect 11-0 record which puts them in a first-place tie with Quinnipiac. The Stags have out-scored their MAAC competition by an average of 26.8 points and are now 56-1 against MAAC foes over the last three seasons.
One of the keys to their successes has been their efficient offense, as the Stags enter the week as the national leader with 12.5 made 3-pointers per game. Fairfield is also fifth in Division I with a .387 3-point shooting percentage.
In total, the Stags lead the MAAC in: scoring (78.4 points per game), 3-pointers per game, field goal percentage (.461), 3-point percentage, and assists (18.3).
In her four-year career, she ranks 12th among active Division I head coaches with a .784 winning percentage.
The five finalists for the award will be announced in March, with the winner being named around the Final Four.
Coach Carly and the Stags are back in action with a showdown against Quinnipiac at Leo D. Mahoney Arena on Thursday at 7pm on ESPNU.
