Defense Clamps Down For Win At Canisius; Western New York Sweep

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team surrendered just 42 points, tying for the fewest allowed in a game this season leading to a 58-42 decision over Canisius. With the victory, the Stags win their 13th-straight game overall and sweep the Western New York trip for the third-straight season.

"I thought we were really connected on the defensive end," Head Coach Carly Thibault-DuDonis said. "That game is going to be really good for us because we're not always shoot it well, we're not always going to flow as well as we want to offensively. I'm really proud of our defensive effort throughout the game."

Kaety L'Amoreaux led the Stags with 25 points, the 10th time this season – and the third straight game – she has reached the 20-point mark.

After shooting just 31 percent in the first half, the Stags executed better on the offensive front in the second, with a 41 percent shooting clip.

Fairfield had their best quarter with a 23-point showing in the third that was capped by an 11-0 run to put the score at 46-23 going into the final period. Cyanne Coe led the Stags with four points during that stretch with Jillian Huerter drilling a 3-pointer and Alli Campbell hitting a jumper.

L'Amoreaux led the Stags through a slow first half, tallying 14 of the team's 23 points. She carried the Stags in the second quarter, connecting on three of the team's four field goals.

She would continue her success in the third, recording three-straight layups to increase Fairfield's lead to 37-20.

On the defensive side, the 42 points are tied for the fewest the Stags have allowed this season and the fourth time they have surrendered fewer than 50 points. Fairfield also forced 26 turnovers, the seventh time in their last eight games they have forced 20 or more turnovers.

For the 13th time this season, L'Amoreaux led the Stags in scoring with 25 points. She also led the defensive charge with four steals.

The Stags grabbed 12 offensive rebounds, with three being hauled in by L'Amoreaux.

The nation's leading 3-point shooting team added nine more triples to their ledger, including the 1,000th in the four years under Coach Carly.

Coe was the other Stag in double-figures as she netted 10 while going 4-for-5 from the field.

In her program-record tying 129th career game, Janelle Brown led the team with four assists.

Fairfield also picks up their 49th road win under Coach Carly, the most in the nation in that span.

Fairfield will now head home to Leo D. Mahoney Arena for a MAAC showdown with Quinnipiac on Thursday night at 7pm live on ESPNU.
