Dominant First Half Leads Stags Over Siena

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A dominant first half that saw the Fairfield University Women's Basketball team put up 51 points was all that was needed as the Stags cruised to an 86-50 victory over the Siena Saints on Monday afternoon. Kaety L'Amoreaux led all scorers with 26 points, the eighth time this season she has reached the 20-point mark. Cyanne Coe tallied her second-straight double-digit rebounding contest with 11 boards. With the win, the Stags tie the program-record with 21-straight home wins matching the 1990-91 teams.

"It was great to see us put two sides of the ball together," Head Coach Carly Thibault-DuDonis said. "I think that was the best two quarters we put together defensively while being consistent and disruptive. We were able to run and use our defensive momentum while being able to score and play together and connect it offensively, it was really fun to see."

Fairfield (15-3; 9-0 MAAC) allowed just 17 points in the first half while holding Siena to just four field goals on 16 percent shooting. Fairfield forced 11 turnovers in the first 20 minutes while netting 15 points off those miscues.

Offensively, the Stags netted 51 points in the first half, just two shy of a season-high. Fairfield swished through 11 3-pointers during that span with L'Amoreaux going a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor and 4-for-4 from long-range.

Fairfield's 34-point halftime lead would be extended to as many as 46 after Sydni Scott hit a fast-break 3-pointer to put the score at 77-31 in the first minute of the fourth quarter.

Despite all the scoring, the Stags had just two players reach double-figures with L'Amoreaux netting 26 and Jillian Huerter adding 12, her fifth-straight double-digit contest. Twelve different Stags entered the scoring column.

L'Amoreaux also led the defensive charge with four steals.

Fairfield held an opponent to 50 points or fewer for the fourth time in their last six contests. Fairfield also forced 20 or more turnovers for the eighth time this season.

Fairfield held Siena to just 27 percent shooting while not allowing a 3-pointer.

The Stags will embark on their Western New York swing starting with a Thursday night game against Niagara at 6pm.
