FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University field hockey team will open the home portion of its 2025 schedule on Friday when the Stags host Villanova University at University Field. The team will complete its weekend by hosting Lehigh University on Sunday afternoon.
The Stags started the campaign with a pair of road games last weekend that included a match up with 11
th-ranked Syracuse University. A pair of student-athletes scored a goal during the weekend, including freshman
Kaelyn Fogelson and
Pilar Mengotti. The duo found the back of the cage against Syracuse in a 5-2 setback.
Goalkeeper Peyton Rahn played all 120 minutes during the weekend road swing, making 11 saves over the two contests. She started with a five-save performance against Lafayette before coming back with six saves against the nationally-ranked Orange. Rahn averaged 5.5 saves per game in her first two starts which places her among the top five for saves per game in the Northeast Conference.
Villanova also played a nationally-ranked opponent in its opening weekend, falling to fourth-ranked Maryland on the road. The team also dropped a 3-2 decision against James Madison University on a neutral pitch.
Ava Borkowski scored both Villanova goals, the first coming in the closing minutes of the second quarter. She tallied her second goal in the third quarter which tied the game at 2-2. Goalkeeper Maddi Sears made three saves against JMU. She equaled that save mark against the Terrapins, all of which came in the first half.
Lehigh secured a victory in its first game of the 2025 season, gaining a clean sheet with its 4-0 decision over La Salle University. Kate Burgess was called on to make one save to secure her first shutout of the season.
Ella Stephenson secured two of the team's four goals, scoring her first in the closing seconds of the half and her second just two minutes into the third quarter. Kiki Mes also enjoyed a good day inside the circle, registering a goal and an assist while on the pitch.
Following this weekend's home stand, the Stags will embark on a five-game road swing that starts with a pair of games against Ivy League opponents. Fairfield will head to Columbia University on September 12 and Brown University on September 14. The final three games of the road trip will include Northeast Conference opponents, namely Wagner College on September 19, Merrimack College on September 26, and Stonehill College on September 28.
