EDISON, N.J. – Fairfield University Women's Soccer freshman
Kelly O'Connor was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week following her strong performance in Fairfield's win over FDU. The rookie dished out a career-high three assists in the victory, becoming only the fifth Stag all-time to record three helpers in a home game. She becomes the second Stag this season and the 16th under Head Coach
David Barrett to receive MAAC Rookie of the Week honors.
"It's great for Kelly to receive this award," Coach Barrett said. "She was very dangerous against FDU and is beginning to figure out how to be consistently a threat with her pace and quickness."
O'Connor started her performance by assisting on the eventual game-winning tally in the first half. She sent a cross to the back post where fellow rookie
Riley Roycroft one-timed a shot past the keeper.
She would also help create the fourth and fifth goals in the second half. O'Connor's three assists ties for the most in a Division I game this season and the most ever by a Stag in a home game. For the season, she is tied for the MAAC lead with four helpers, a number that ties her for tenth-most in the country.
Her performance helped the Stags to their 19th-straight home victory, the longest active streak across the Division I landscape.
The Stags will have nearly two weeks off before their next game that opens up the MAAC season at Iona on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 1pm.
