Fairfield Topples ODU and Towson at Quest for the Crown

The Stags will play West Virginia on Saturday afternoon to conclude the weekend in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. – Fairfield University Volleyball turned in an unbeaten day of work to open the 2025 season at the Quest for the Crown in Norfolk, Va. The Stags started their day with a 3-1 win over host Old Dominion and capped Friday's effort with a 3-2 comeback victory over perennial CAA power Towson.
 
Fairfield was challenging ODU – a Sun Belt Conference member in its sixth season as a varsity program – for the first time. The Stags defeat Towson for the first time in three opportunities. The Tigers finished third in the CAA (14-4) in 2024 coming off a stretch of five consecutive first-place finishes in the league from 2019-23.
 
Fairfield 3, Old Dominion 1
The duo of Allie Elliott and Mamie Krubally powered the Stags in the opener. Elliott put down 17 kills on .324 hitting from the pins, adding 10 digs to round out a double-double. On the right side, Krubally recorded 15 kills at a .375 clip and pitched in on the defensive end with five blocks, including a pair of solo stuffs.
 
Emma Bortolotti contributed six kills, hitting .333 in her collegiate debut, and had a hand in three blocks. Maya Walker also got a piece of three of Fairfield's 12 blocks and sent home five kills. Katelyn Cook added five finishers, Harlan Wyche added three kills with five blocks, and Sophia Nagy notched a kill and a block in her first match as a Stag.
 
Abby Jandro and Zofia Sykut shared setting duties and dished out 23 and 19 assists, respectively. Jandro also registered a team-leading 15 digs from the setter position.
 
The Stags added nine points from the serving game, fueled by four aces apiece from Cook and Jandro. Natalie Carlin landed one to complete the Fairfield scoring.
 
Complementing Jandro's 15 digs, Cook had 13, Elliott had a 10 and libero Nicole Macalintal chipped in 10 in her first collegiate match.
 
Fairfield 3, Towson 2
The Stags needed a rally to knock off Towson in the nightcap. Fairfield erased a 2-1 deficit in the match, including comebacks from an 8-3 deficit in the fourth frame and an 11-8 gap in the fifth. Emma Bortolotti, Maya Walker and Harlan Wyche each had two kills in the final stanza.
 
For the match, Mamie Krubally continued her torrid pace from the opener with 17 kills firing from the right side. Allie Elliott added her second double-double of the day with 11 kills and 11 digs.
 
Walker and Wyche were a potent combination in the middle, with Walker hitting .529 en route to nine kills and Wyche putting down eight finishers at an even .500 clip. The attack was supplemented by seven kills for Bortolotti, five by Lindsey Healey, four from Katelyn Cook and three by setter Abby Jandro.
 
Jandro doled out 34 assists and Zofia Sykut had 21 as the Stags hit .261 for the match.
 
In the back row, Cook had a team-leading 14 digs. Jandro and Delaney Moon chipped in nine apiece. At the net, Wyche had a hand in four of Fairfield's five team blocks.

Fairfield wraps up action at the Quest for the Crown on Saturday at 1 p.m. against West Virginia. The Mountaineers began their 2025 campaign with a 3-1 win over Towson this morning and are currently in action in Friday's nightcap against host Old Dominion.
