LATHAM, N.Y. – Fairfield University Men's Tennis was on the short side of a 4-3 contest to host Siena on Sunday evening indoors at Tri-City Fitness in Latham, N.Y. Four of the six singles matches include at least one tiebreak with three going to a third set.
Fairfield suffers its first MAAC loss and sees its five-game winning streak come to an end. The Stags now stand at 6-6 on the season and 2-1 in the MAAC. Siena improves to 4-11 with a 3-2 conference tally.
On the doubles courts,
Luca Benaibbouche and
Will O'Brien earned a win at #3, but the Saints took the top two flights to nab a 1-0 lead in the match.
In singles,
Kacper Krolikowski picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win at #2, and
Domagoj Stabek took a 7-6 (3), 6-2 final at the #5 spot. At #3,
Kostas Kollias won a marathon match by a score of 6-7 (6), 7-6 (4), 1-0 (6).
However, Siena was victorious on the other three singles courts, including three-set wins at #4 and #6, to gain the edge in the 4-3 final.
Fairfield Men's Tennis is back in action on Wednesday, April 9 at Rider. First serve is set for noon.
