FAIRFIELD, Conn.-The Fairfield University women's tennis team completed its 2025 regular season schedule and locked up the number two seed in next weekend's MAAC Championship Tournament with an impressive 7-0 sweep over local rival, Sacred Heart University on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Stags wrap up the regular season with 7-13 overall record and a 6-2 MAAC mark. SHU slips to 5-13 overall and 2-6 in conference action.
Fairfield got off to a quick start by sweeping all three matches to win the doubles point behind wins behind wins from Maeve Cassidy and Nicolette Loeffler (6-4) at number two, Maria Gell and Victoria Mandma (6-4) at number one and Lucie Tuttle and Anna Neyestani completed the doubles whitewash with a 6-3 victory at number three.
In singles play, the Stags continued to roll along clinching the match victory with straight sets triumphs at number three by Nicolette Loeffler, 6-0, 6-2, at number six by Maeve Cassidy, 6-0, 6-1 and at number four by Lily Malinowski, 6-1, 6-2
Fairfield completed the match sweep with straight sets wins at number five by Maria Gell, 6-4, 6-1, and number two by Anna Neyestani, 6-4, 6-4 and a superbreaker triumph at number one by Victoria Mandma, 2-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-3).
Head coach Jeff Bricker summed up his team's play on Saturday saying, "It was a nice team win today! We took care of business and now we can take a few days to rest and regroup for MAAC Championship."
Up next, the Stags will be in action at the six-team, MAAC Women's Tennis Championship that will take place next weekend from April 25-27 at the Mercer County Park Tennis Center in West Windsor, New Jersey. Fairfield, the defending conference tournament champions, will open play in defense of their crown on Saturday, April 26 at 2:00 p.m. against the winner for Friday's match between Niagara and Marist. The Stags have won a total of 11 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Championships in program history.
