Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Host Towson Pulls Away from #15 Fairfield

Trio of Stags net two goals and an assist in the CAA setback

TOWSON, Md. – #15 Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse played reigning CAA Champion Towson to a 7-7 tie over the first 23 minutes of Saturday's conference clash in Maryland. But the host Tigers made the decisive run out of the deadlock to pull away for a 14-9 win. The trio of Keegan Lynch, Rob Moore and Luke Okupski each scored two goals with one assist for the Stags.

With the loss, the Stags fall to 11-2 overall and 4-2 in the CAA. Towson clinches the CAA Regular Season Championship – as well as hosting rights for the upcoming CAA Championship – and improves to 8-5 with a 6-0 league mark.

Despite the setback, Fairfield clinched a berth in the CAA postseason due to Stony Brook's 15-14 loss at Drexel.

"It was a pretty typical CAA game for the first half. And then they just did a good job of neutralizing our strengths in the second half and just wore us down," said Head Coach Andrew Baxter. "It was an uncharacteristic day for us in terms of our execution, but I told the team that it was a good learning day and we'll address the things that need to be addressed going forward."

Will Consoli started the scoring this afternoon for his 16th goal of the season before Towson answered with back-to-back tallies by All-American Mikey Weisshaar. The Stags' response came in the transition game with Rory Thompson uncorking a pole goal for the equalizer. Devin Lampron added his team-leading 27th tally to put Fairfield back in front, and Rob Moore muscled home an unassisted goal to stretch the advantage to 4-2.

Two goals in six seconds produced another tie score, as Chuck Matusek scored for the Tigers and then faceoff man Matt Constantinides won the draw and fed Weisshaar to cap his hat trick and knot the game at 4-4.

After Okupski lifted the lid on the second quarter scoring, the hosts ran off three straight to claim a 7-5 edge. Fairfield responded with another Okupski tally, and then Lynch dove in front of the crease to convert a Lampron pass and tie the game at 7-7 with 6:53 left in the first half.

However, the Lynch marker was Fairfield's last goal for a span of 33:19 of gametime. Towson broke the tie to take an 8-7 lead into the intermission, then rattled off the first five scores of the second half to amass an insurmountable 13-7 lead.

Rob Moore ended the drought with a man-up goal with 3:26 left, and Lynch added his second goal in the final minute as time expired on a 14-9 Towson decision.

In addition to three-point days from Lynch, Moore and Okupski, Dylan Smith was a standout at the faceoff X at 13-for-19 with eight ground balls. On the defensive end, Julian Radossich had two caused turnovers, extending his program records to 36 this season and 63 in his career.

Owen Hirsch made eight saves protecting the Fairfield cage.

Fairfield wraps up the regular season at Rafferty Stadium on Saturday, April 26 with a noon faceoff against Monmouth.
