FAIRFIELD, Conn. – #18/20 Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse wrapped up the 2025 regular season on Saturday afternoon with a 14-8 win over visiting Monmouth on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium. The Stags tied a program record on Saturday with their 12th victory of the campaign.
Fairfield's 12th win of the season matches the program record set in 2012 and equaled in 2014. The Stags are 12-2 on the year and close the Coastal Athletic Association slate at 5-2. Fairfield is the #2 seed in the CAA Championship, which begins on Thursday at top-seeded Towson. The Stags will play either Hofstra or Drexel in the semifinals, pending the result of Hofstra's game against Towson this afternoon on Long Island.
"I'm happy for the seniors who have given us so much to get a win in their last home game," said Head Coach
Andrew Baxter. "Of course, we're proud of the success with 12 wins and being in the national rankings, but the goal every year is to win a championship. And that means we'll enjoy this one for a bit, and on Monday, we're focusing on getting better with a very good opponent waiting for us Thursday."
Today's victory also concluded the 2025 home slate with a record of 8-0 on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium. The unblemished home mark is the first in program history except for the 2020 campaign that was shortened due to Covid-19 after only four home contests. Fairfield also tied the program standard for the most home wins with the 2005 GWLL Championship Team that went 8-1 at Alumni Stadium.
"Our guys love playing here. The support from the students, the families, the community and the alumni has been great, and we all appreciate the energy and the home-field advantage that we have here at Rafferty," said Baxter.
The teams played to a deadlock in the first quarter, finishing the period tied at 3-3.
Devin Lampron scored twice in the opening frame, and
Keegan Lynch added a goal and an assist.
The start of the second quarter set the stage for the defining stretch of action in which Fairfield broke open the 3-3 stalemate with seven consecutive goals. Lynch and
Rob Moore each scored twice during the run with
Matt Rice,
Justin Brown and
KJ Delane each contributing one goal to the spurt. Delane's goal was a man-up marker – Fairfield's only EMO of the day – assisted by
Will Consoli. With the helper, Consoli reached the 100-point mark for his Fairfield career.
With the offense humming on all cylinders, Monmouth was held scoreless for a span of 28:49 by the Fairfield defense. During that time, the Stags caused seven turnovers and goalkeeper
Owen Hirsch made seven of his 11 saves as Fairfield built its insurmountable 10-3 lead.
The Hawks broke their drought with three straight goals to climb to within 10-6, but
Jake Gilbert finished a transition feed from
Andrew Kasten and then Lynch netted his fourth of the day – facilitated by
Luke Okupski – to quickly double-up the visitors at 12-6 with 6:58 to go.
Okupski and
Luke Fisher each added a goal down the stretch to ice the 14-8 win.
Lynch finished with four goals and an assist, running his team-leading totals to 26 assists and 48 points this spring while Lampron's two goals raised his mark to a team-best 29 goals on the year. Moore had a three-point day with two goals and an assist, with Gilbert and Okupski each netting one and one.
The Stags stayed on the attack with a 14-11 advantage at the faceoff X.
Daniel Davis was 10-for-17 with seven ground balls, and
Dylan Smith went 3-for-7 with three grounders.
Jonathan Lewis took the final draw and came away with the win and the ground ball as time expired.
Hirsch earned the win in the cage with 11 saves, finishing at .500 or better for the ninth time this season. He has in the cage for every decision this spring, tying Charlie Cipriano in 2012 and Jack Murphy in 2014 for a program-record 12 goalkeeping wins.
Julian Radossich anchored the defense with five caused turnovers, improving his Fairfield records to 41 this season and 68 in his career.
Eli Adams added two caused turnovers with LSM
Rory Thompson notching one to go along with two ground balls.
PJ McGoldrick chipped in three ground balls, and Rice had three from the defensive midfield.
Monmouth wrapped up its season at 5-9 overall and 2-5 in the CAA. The Hawks were led by four goals from Nick Teets. Standout attackman Ty Caffarelli was held scoreless for 59:57 before sneaking in a man-up goal with three seconds remaining to net his team-best 34th of the year. The game's final tally was Monmouth's only man-up goal in five opportunities.
More information regarding the Stags' second consecutive trip to the CAA postseason will be announced as it is finalized by the conference office.
