FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Baseball team slugged six home runs including a program's single-game record tying three from
Dean Ferrara as the Stags completed a three-game sweep with a 14-3 victory on a beautiful Saturday at Don and Chris Cook Field. Along with Ferrara's three homers,
Luke Nomura and
Tyler Kipp also went year while
Matthew Bucciero's long ball in the bottom of the eighth clinched the 10-run rule. With the victory, the Stags have now won six-straight conference games and improved their MAAC mark to 16-2.
"Today was certainly a good day to hit for both teams," Head Coach
Bill Currier said. "Bo did a good job to get a lower pitch count in the middle innings and gave us six. I thought we hit in bunches well and made some good plays on defense to get our pitchers off the mountain."
The Stags (29-7; 16-2 MAAC) started their power surge in the fourth as Ferrara, Nomura, and Kipp all went yard in the span of four batters to put Fairfield in front 5-0.
Ferrara would go yard again in the seventh by taking an inside pitch the other way over the right field wall. He completed his historic day with a three-run shot to the opposite field in the eighth and putting Fairfield in front 12-3.
It also helped set the stage for Bucciero's walk-off in the eighth after Nomura reached base with a single and immediately got into scoring position on a stolen base. Bucciero would crush a 2-1 pitch to the opposite field, forcing a 10-run rule and the 14-3 final score.
Bowen Baker picked up his sixth win of the year with 6.1 solid frames striking out seven and allowing a pair of runs.
Jake Memoli tossed the final 1.2 innings surrendering just one run.
The top-four hitters in the Fairfield lineup accounted for all their 11 hits with Ferrara leading the bunch with four and six RBI. Kipp followed with three while Nomura and Bucciero each picked up a pair.
Fairfield will continue their eight-game home stand with a midweek visit from Fordham on Tuesday at 3:30pm.
