FAIRFIELD, Conn. – In a rematch of last season's MAAC Championship Match, visiting Quinnipiac extracted a small measure of payback against the reigning league champion Fairfield University Women's Tennis as the Bobcats took a 5-2 decision on Thursday at the Walsh Athletic Center outdoor courts.
Maeve Cassidy led the Stags with a 2-0 day of action.
The loss sends the Stags to 6-13 overall and 5-2 in the MAAC. Quinnipiac stays unbeaten at 8-0 in league play – locking up the MAAC Regular Season Championship – as a part of a 10-8 overall mark.
Fairfield started the day on the right foot by claiming the doubles point. QU gained the early edge with a win in the top flight, but the team of
Maeve Cassidy and
Sarah Liu tied the count at 1-1 with a 6-2 victory at #2. The clincher came at #3, where
Anna Neyestani and
Lily Malinowski won by a score of 6-3.
The Bobcats, however, won the top five singles matches at singles to lock up the match. Fairfield singles win came on Court #6, where
Maeve Cassidy notched a 6-3, 6-3 triumph.
The Stags will close out the regular season on Saturday, April 19 at the WAC courts against visiting Sacred Heart.
Fairfield has clinched a berth in the upcoming MAAC Championship. More information will be announced as it is finalized by the conference office.
