FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Men's Tennis was on the short side of a 5-2 decision on Thursday afternoon against first-place Quinnipiac.
Alex Aguiar accounted for the Stags' lone singles win, and Fairfield also took the doubles point from the Bobcats.
With the loss, the Stags stand at an even 8-8 with a 4-3 MAAC tally. The Bobcats improved to 10-11 on the year and finish the MAAC regular season at 8-0.
On the doubles courts,
Luca Benaibbouche and
Kostas Kollias rolled to a 6-0 win at #2. The clincher came on Court #3 as
Andrew Immink and
Kacper Krolikowski picked up a 6-4 victory. Aguiar and
Sam Hodges saw their match in the top flight go unfinished with the Stags already securing the point.
Aguiar's solo win came at #6 singles, where he made quick work on Alex Yang in a 6-0, 6-1 final. However, the Bobcats ran off the next five singles wins to ice the 5-2 decision.
The Stags will close out the regular season on Saturday, April 19 at the WAC courts against visiting Sacred Heart.
Fairfield has clinched a berth in the upcoming MAAC Championship. More information will be announced as it is finalized by the conference office.
