Women's Tennis Heads Into The Final Week Of Regular Season Action At 5-1 In MAAC Play

Stags Sweep The Mount On Sunday And Will Host Quinnipiac And Sacred Heart This Week

FAIRFIELD, Conn.-After suffering their first loss in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play yesterday at Marist by a 4-2 margin, the Fairfield University women's tennis team, playing at home for the first time since March 25 and celebrating Senior Day, got right back in the win column on Sunday with a 4-0 MAAC match whitewash of Mount Saint Mary's.  With the win, the Stags are now 5-1 in conference play and 6-12 overall.  The Mount slips to 2-17 overall and 1-6 in the MAAC.

Fairfield got off to a fast start by taking the all-important doubles point behind wins at number two by Sarah Liu and Maeve Cassidy (6-0) and the clincher at number three from the squad's lone senior Lucie Tuttle and Nicolette Loeffler, who prevailed, 7-5.

In singles play, the Stags clinched the match with three convincing victories that came from number one, Victoria Mandma, 6-1, 1-0 (retired), number five, Lilly Malinowski, 6-2, 6-1 and a love-sweep at number six by Maeve Cassidy, 6-0, 6-0.

With the outcome decided, the rest of Sunday's singles matches were left unfinished, as Anna Neyestani led her match in the third set, Sarah Liu was tied in set number two and Nicolette Loeffler took set number one of her match.

Head coach Jeff Brickler was pleased with his team's effort on Sunday saying, "It was great for Lucie to get the doubles clinch on Senior Day with Nicolette. It was a quick turnaround for us after playing last night, but we handled it well and got back on track with an important conference victory."

Up next, the Fairfield women's tennis team will wrap up its 2025 regular season schedule with a pair of important home Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matches hosting local rivals Quinnipiac on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. and Sacred Heart on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
