FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Men's Tennis celebrated Senior Day with a key Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference win over Mount St. Mary's on Sunday at the Walsh Athletic Center courts. The Stags moved to 4-2 in the MAAC entering the final week of the regular season after today's 4-1 triumph.
Fairfield started out on the right foot, picking up the doubles point. The Stags got a win from the #2 Doubles duo of
Luca Benaibbouche and
Kostas Kollias followed by the clinching victory in the top flight from
Alex Aguiar and
Sam Hodges.
The Stags took a 2-0 lead with
Domagoj Stabek's straight-set win at #5 singles and drew closer to a team victory after Benaibbouche dispatched his opponent at #4 singles.
After the Mount got a point back with a win at #1 singles, Fairfield sealed the win with Kollias rallying from one set down at #3 singles to close out a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win and ice the team triumph.
This was a great win for the guys over a very good Mount team," commented Head Coach
Jeff Bricker. "The conditions were tough, but we were able to lock in and grab another gritty win. Once again, the doubles point was huge in earning the victory."
An all-Connecticut final week is on tap for the Stags with two home matches to close the regular season. First-place Quinnipiac visits the WAC courts on Thursday and crosstown foe Sacred Heart comes to campus on Saturday.
