FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will look to complete their perfect 20-0 MAAC Regular Season when they head to Hamden, Conn., to face in-state rivals Quinnipiac on Saturday at 4pm. Fairfield has already clinched the MAAC Regular Season Championship and will be the top-seed in the upcoming MAAC Tournament for the second-straight season.
Fairfield clinched the regular season title on their senior night in a win over Siena on Thursday. Four Stags scored in double-figures led by sophomore
Meghan Andersen who tallied 16 while draining three 3-pointers.
Andersen not only led Fairfield on the offensive end but also the defensive end as she held Siena's leading scorer Teresa Seppala scoreless for the first time in her three-year career.
The Stags jumped out to a 10-0 lead capped by a 3-pointer by
Izabela Nicoletti Leite forcing a Siena timeout. The Saints would claw back and cut the Fairfield lead to just three at halftime. Fairfield used a 12-0 run highlighted by back-to-back 3-pointers by
Kaety L'Amoreaux and
Kendall McGruder to put the game out of reach.
With the win, the Stags clinched their sixth MAAC Regular Season Championship in program history and the third in the last four seasons.
Quinnipiac will be the number two seed in the upcoming tournament, holding a 17-2 record in the conference. Freshman Gal Raviv is the team leading scorer with over 17 points per game while also hauling in more than six rebounds per contest.
The Stags will next open up MAAC Championship play at Jim Whalen Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City on Wednesday at noon.
