#17 Stags Storm Past St. John’s, 20-8

Eighteen Stags earn a point in the decisive road win

QUEENS, N.Y. – Eighteen different Stags contributed at least one point as #17 Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse rolled to a 20-8 victory over host St. John's on Tuesday afternoon in Queens. Jake Gilbert paced the scoring with five goals, while Keegan Lynch netted a hat trick and dished out three assists.

With the win, the Stags improve to 6-0 on the season. St. John's slides to 2-4 in defeat. Fairfield's 20 goals marked a season high as well as the Stags' highest scoring output and margin of victory since ending 2023 with a 22-6 win over Hampton.

Fairfield led wire-to-wire for the second consecutive game. The Stags struck exactly 60 seconds into today's game and scored the first five markers en route to the decisive victory. Last Saturday, Fairfield needed just 58 seconds to take a lead it would never relinquish in the 15-7 win over Providence.

Gilbert's five goals are a new career high, and the junior also tied his career high in points with today's five-spot. Lynch established new personal standards in points and assists while netting his second career hat trick.

Jason LaMay Jr. also had a multi-point day with two goals and an assist, and the duo of Will Consoli and Devin Lampron netted two goals apiece.

Two Stags scored their first career goals as Chris Adornato and Hunter Moriarity each found the back of the cage. Nico Nassar, Jeremiah Wade and Shane Elliott also recorded their first career assist, and KJ Delane also notched a helper for his first point as a Stag.

Rounding out the offense, Fairfield got single goals from Luke Fisher, Daniel Davis, Trey Ordway and Luke Okupski. Andrew Kasten, Matt Rice, Rob Moore and John Okupski all finished with one assist.

In addition to scoring his third goal in the last four games, Davis went 8-for-14 at the faceoff X with four ground balls. Jonathan Lewis was nearly perfect in relief with a 10-for-11 day that included six ground balls. Mark Durling added his first faceoff win as a Stag to round out a 19-11 advantage on the restart to keep the potent Fairfield attack on the field.

A trio of goalkeepers split the 60 minutes in the cage. Owen Hirsch started and made three stops to record the win – the 10th of his career. Will Snyder took over and made three saves of his own, and Walker Hunter completed the effort with one save on the only shot he faced in his collegiate debut.

The defense in front of the cage pressured St. John's into 25 turnovers, with 11 different players earning a caused turnover on defense or during the Fairfield ride. Kasten collected four ground balls on the defensive end and Rory Thompson picked up three.

St. John's was led by a hat trick from Brian Kelly. Matt Nelson went the distance in the Red Storm cage and made 20 saves.

Fairfield Men's Lacrosse is back in action on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium this Saturday, March 8 for a noon faceoff against UMass Lowell. Tickets are on sale now at FairfieldStags.com/TIX.

With a win on Saturday, the Stags would match the best start in program history (2012) as well as the longest winning streak in program history (2005, 2012, 2014) with a 7-0 start.
