Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

#17 Stags Trounce UMass Lowell, 19-5, to Match Best Start in Program History

Lampron’s five points lead 16 different Stags to contribute to the scoring

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- #17 Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse scored the first 14 goals of Saturday afternoon's clash with UMass Lowell en route to a 19-5 victory on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium. The Stags' 7-0 start matches both the best start and longest overall winning streak in program history.

"We were able to play the way that we wanted to. We were physical, we executed our game plan, and showed what Fairfield Lacrosse is all about," said Head Coach Andrew Baxter.

Devin Lampron led a balanced offense that saw 16 different Stags contribute to the scoring efforts. The rookie attackman scored three goals and two assists, moving into the team lead with 17 markers on the season.

Andrew Kasten had his best day on the offensive side of the ball as the short-stick defensive midfielder scored two goals with two assists leading Fairfield's transition offense. Jason LaMay Jr., John Okupski, Jake Gilbert and Luke Okupski all added two-goal days for the Stags.

Keegan Lynch increased his team lead to 12 assists and 22 total points, posting a goal and two helpers. Rob Moore had an identical statline with a goal and two assists from the midfield, and Luke Fisher notched one goal and one assist.

Rounding out the attack, Carson Dyl, KJ Delane and Jimmy Grieve had one goal apiece – all the first of their respective Fairfield careers. Hunter Moriarity dished out one assist, as did a trio of long poles in Julian Radossich, Rory Thompson and Lars Heimlich. Heimlich's transition assist was his first point as a Stag.

On the other end of the field, the defense matched its best performance of the season with only five goals allowed. The Stags have limited six of seven opponents this spring to eight goals or fewer.

Eli Adams paced the close defense statistically with four caused turnovers and two ground balls. Radossich matched his average with three caused turnovers and also nabbed five grounders. Chris DeBellis came off the bench and contributed two caused turnovers and a roster of seven Stags each created one River Hawks turnover.

Fairfield's man-down unit was tested with UMass Lowell going on the EMO five times – including a three-minute non-releasable penalty – but the Stags kept the River Hawks off the board in all five man-up chances.

Owen Hirsch drew the start in the cage and played the first half, stopping four of the five shots he faced as the Stags built a 17-1 halftime advantage. Hirsch also picked off a pass for a caused turnover and ground ball.

Will Snyder took over the crease in the third quarter and finished with five saves. Walker Hunter stopped both shots that he saw in the fourth quarter, and Jaden Galfano made his collegiate debut in the cage over the final 5:09 of action.

A trio shared the load at the faceoff X. Mark Durling went 5-for-9 with two ground balls, Daniel Davis finished at 4-for-10 and Jonathan Lewis had a 4-for-9 day.

Five different scorers accounted for UMass Lowell's five goals on the day. Colby Frigon facilitated the action with a pair of assists.

Fairfield's 7-0 record matches the 2012 squad that opened with seven straight victories en route to a 12-4 campaign. The seven-game winning streak ties the standard set by the 2005 GWLL Championship team and later equaled by the 2012 and 2014 editions of the Stags. The 2025 Stags also complete an unbeaten non-conference slate for the first time in program history.

"We've acknowledged it, but not much," said Baxter of the team's success. "We're focused on sticking to our gameplan that we've developed and the things that we think are important to the way we want to play and what we want to do on the lacrosse field. Records and rankings are a byproduct of that, but they're not going to change or influence the way we focus on the task at hand and whatever opponent is in front of us."

Fairfield Men's Lacrosse vies for the best start in the program history as well as a strong start to the CAA slate next Saturday, March 15 with an 11 a.m. visit to Hampton. The Pirates, who travel to Bellarmine on Tuesday, are 0-6 on the season.

Action returns to Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium on the following Saturday, March 22 to host Drexel. The Stags will celebrate Senior Day prior to the noon faceoff with the Dragons. Tickets are on sale now at FairfieldStags.com/TIX.
