WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y.-The Fairfield University women's tennis team moved to 2-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play on Saturday with a 7-0 road sweep over the host Niagara University Purple Eagles. The victory ups Fairfield's overall mark to 3-11 so far in 2025. Niagara is now an even 2-2 in conference play and 7-11 overall.
The visitors got off to a quick start on Saturday winning the doubles point behind victories at number three by Lily Malinowski and Anna Neyestani (6-2) plus Maeve Cassidy and Sarah Liu at number two (6-1). Maria Gell and Victoria Mandma led at number one doubles, 5-3, but their match was left unfinished after the point was decided.
In singles play, Fairfield surged its way to the match sweep behind triumphs at number one by Victoria Mandma (6-2, 6-3), at number five by Lily Malinowski (6-2, 6-3) and Maeve Cassidy at number six (6-1, 6-1).
Sarah Liu earned a three-set victory in the number three slot, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.
The Stags completed their clean sweep with a pair of super tiebreaker wins at number two singles by Anna Neyestani, 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6) and Nicolette Loeffler at number five singles, 5-7, 7-6, 1-0 (10-5).
The Fairfield women's tennis team continues its four-match MAAC road trip on Friday when the Stags travel to Lawrenceville, New Jersey to take on the Broncos of Rider University. First serve is slated for 12 noon.
