Stags Sweep FDU in Non-Conference Finale

Hodges, Kollias and Benaibbouche earn singles wins

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Men's Tennis concluded the non-conference portion of the 2024-25 schedule on Tuesday with a 4-0 win over visiting FDU. Sam Hodges, Kostas Kollias and Luca Benaibbouche earned singles wins for the Stags.
 
The victory is Fairfield's fourth in a row to even its record at 5-5 on the year. The Stags are 1-0 in MAAC play, having opened the league slate with a win over Merrimack this past Saturday.
 
FDU falls to 6-9 on the season. The Knights are 3-0 in the Northeast Conference.
 
Fairfield got on the board first, winning two of three doubles matches. FDU gained the advantage with a win at #3, but Hodges and Andrew Immink evened the doubles tally with a 6-1 win at #2, and the duo of Kollias and Kacper Krolikowski clinched the point with a 6-3 victory in the #1 spot.
 
On the singles courts, Hodges won by a 6-1, 6-3 count in the top flight. Kollias also went 6-1, 6-3 at #3 singles and Benaibbouche locked up the win with a 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 triumph at #5. The other three singles matches were left unfinished after the Stags solidified the 4-0 victory.
 
Fairfield Men's Tennis returns to MAAC action this Saturday, March 29 at Niagara. The men's team will play second up in the Williamsville, following the women's match between the Stags and Purple Eagles that begins at 4 p.m.
