FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Women's Tennis opened the 2025 MAAC slate with a decisive 7-0 sweep of Merrimack on Sunday afternoon at the Walsh Athletic Center courts. The reigning MAAC Regular Season and Tournament Champion Stags have won nine straight matches against league foes.
"It was nice to get the MAAC portion of the season started with a positive result," said Head Coach
Jeff Bricker. "Everybody contributed and the whole team looked great today."
Fairfield took an early lead by quickly claiming the doubles point.
Lily Malinowski and
Anna Neyestani earned a 6-0 win at #2 Doubles and the tandem of
Nicolette Loeffler and
Lucie Tuttle took the #3 Doubles decision by a 6-1 count.
Maeve Cassidy and
Sarah Liu saw their match in the top flight of doubles go unfinished due to the clinch, tied at 3-3.
On the singles courts, Malinowski kept the momentum going with a 6-1, 6-0 rout at #4.
Meg Harding added a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at #6 and Neyestani provided the clinch at #1 with her 6-2, 6-1 victory.
The Stags completed the sweep of the visiting Warriors with a 6-1, 6-3 win for Liu at #2 followed by a 6-2, 6-2 on the #5 Singles court from
Dylin Pizzutello. Loeffler polished off the sweep at #3 Singles, gaining a 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (1) comeback win.
The Stags will conclude the non-conference schedule this Tuesday, March 25 with a rescheduled match against FDU. Action on the WAC Courts starts at noon with the men's teams slated to meet first, followed by the women's contest.
MAAC play resumes on Saturday, March 29 at Niagara.
