Men's Tennis Begins MAAC Play With 6-1 Triumph Over Merrimack

Squad Has Now Posted Three Straight Victories

FAIRFIELD, Conn.-The Fairfield University men's tennis team opened its 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference schedule in fine style on Saturday afternoon on home turf, as the Stags topped the visiting Merrimack College Warriors, 6-1, on the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts.  The victory, which is Fairfield's third in a row, lifts the squad's overall record to 4-5, and the Stags are 1-0 in MAAC play.  Merrimack slips to 3-6 overall and 2-4 in conference action.

The hosts opened play on Saturday by taking the all-important doubles point behind wins at number one by Kostas Kollias and Kacper Krolikowski, 6-4, and the team of Alex Aguiar and Sam Hodges took care of business at number two, 6-2.

After earning the doubles point, the Stags won the match by posting five, straight sets singles wins from the number two through number six flights.

At number two, Kacper Krolikowski won by a 6-3, 6-3 score.

Calum Jessett continued to shine this spring with a 6-1, 7-5 victory at number three.

Kostas Kollias had smooth sailing in the number four slot posting a 6-3, 6-2 triumph, and Luca Benaibbouche at number five (6-3, 6-1) and Domagoj Stabek at number six (6-4, 7-6) rounded out the Fairfield singles' winners in Saturday's MAAC opener.

The Stags will be back in action next Saturday, March 29 when the team heads north to Williamsville, New York to take on the Purple Eagles of Niagara University to begin a four-match conference road swing.
