Stags Play for MAAC Title Saturday

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – It all comes down to Saturday afternoon. The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will compete for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship and the automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament when they take on second-seeded Quinnipiac on Saturday at 1:30pm on ESPNU. The Stags will be looking for their sixth MAAC title and their seventh appearance in the Big Dance. All the action takes place at Jim Whalen Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J.

Fairfield will be looking to defend their MAAC Championship and also earn their third MAAC title since the conference moved the tournament to Atlantic City five years ago.

The Stags clinched a spot in the conference's final game with an emotional 49-48 victory over Mount St. Mary's in the semifinals with Kaety L'Amoreaux playing the role of hero. The sophomore connected on a reverse layup with 13 seconds remaining to regain the lead and then forced a tie-up on the defensive end, earning possession for the team. Meghan Andersen also made a winning play by grabbing an offensive rebound and draining two free throws to ice the game.

On the defensive side, the Stags forced 23 turnovers, the 13th time they have forced at least 20 against a MAAC opponent this season. They also held a foe to fewer than 50 points for the 14th time this year.

Fairfield will now meet the team that snapped their 42-game winning streak against MAAC opponents when they on Quinnipiac for the crown. The Bobcats became the first MAAC team to beat the Stags in a 72-65 decision in Hamden to close out the regular season.

The appearance is Fairfield's 13th in their program history, tying Saint Peter's for the second-most in league history. The Stags will be looking for their sixth conference championship and their seventh appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
