ORLANDO, Fla.-The Fairfield University women's tennis team continued action on its trip to Florida on Wednesday evening, and the Stags (1-9) fell to the Coyotes of the University of South Dakota (5-6) by a tight 4-3 score.
South Dakota posted victories at number two and three doubles to earn that point to open the match, but the number one Fairfield team on Wednesday of Maria Gell and Victoria Mandma picked up a 6-4 victory in the number one slot.
Mandma continued the momentum from her doubles win with a straight sets triumph at number one singles, 6-4, 6-3, over the Coyotes' Bea Havilckova.
The Stags' other singles victories on Wednesday night came in a pair of super tiebreakers, as Anna Neyestani prevailed at number two, 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8) and Maeve Cassidy won at number six, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6).
Up next, the Fairfield women's tennis team closes out its Florida trip with a Thursday afternoon match against Western Carolina University.
