ORLANDO – Alex Aguiar earned a win at #6 singles as Fairfield University Men's Tennis opened its week in Orlando with a 6-1 loss to North Dakota. The Stags were playing the first of three matches on the docket for Spring Break.
Aguiar defeated UND's Jayho Hong, 6-2, 7-6 (2) to pick up a point for the Stags. Other notable performances included
Luca Benaibbouche pushing his match to a third frame, but falling to the Fighting Hawks' Ethan Terry – 6-0, 3-6, 6-1.
Benaibbouche and
Will O'Brien also nabbed a win at #3 doubles by a convincing 6-2 count. But UND took the point, earning a 6-3 decision in the top flight and then clipping the duo of
Sam Hodges and
Andrew Immink, 7-6 (3), in a tiebreak at #2 to merit the doubles point.
Fairfield Men's Tennis is back in action on Wednesday, March 12 for a 3 p.m. meeting with Marquette. The Stags will challenge St. Thomas Aquinas on Thursday to conclude their week in Orlando.
