PHILADELPHIA – Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse hung tough with host Drexel for much of Saturday afternoon's meeting in Philadelphia. But the Dragons ending the contest with a 4-0 fourth quarter to pull away and take a 14-7 decision.
Grace Slater recorded her fourth consecutive hat trick to pace the Fairfield attack.
With the loss, Fairfield slips to 2-4 on the season. Drexel, which entered the week unranked but receiving votes in the national polls, improves to 4-2.
Slater dished out an assist to complement her three goals. She has tallied at least four points in all five games she played to date and currently leads the MAAC with 19 goals and 26 total points.
Amanda Kozak added two goals and assist for the Stags, with
Kelly Haggerty and
Kyleigh Tufano pitching in one goal apiece.
On the defensive end, Macey Day posted two ground balls with two caused turnovers.
Grace Kiernan scooped up three grounders and
Maggie Lonsinger added two on close defense.
Katelyn Greeley picked up three ground balls and
Eva Petrone had two working in the defensive midfield.
Kiera Furey drew the start in the cage and finished with eight saves.
Drexel was led by a six-point showing from Allison Drake, scoring five goals with an assist. Bridget Finley also tallied five goals for the Dragons. Jenika Cuocco made six saves protecting the Drexel cage.
Fairfield Women's Lacrosse returns home to host #21/25 Army West Point on Wednesday, March 5 at 3 p.m. The Black Knights are 3-1 on the season after a 12-6 loss on Friday evening at Colorado.
