PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse got off to a hot start on Saturday afternoon at Brown, and the Stags' defense made the early lead stand up in an 11-5 road victory.
Owen Hirsch anchored the defensive effort with 13 saves, and 10 different Stags contributed a point to the win.
With the win, the Stags open the 2025 campaign at 2-0 – the first time starting a season with back-to-back wins since 2020. Brown begins its season at 0-1.
After Brown scored the first goal of the game, the Stags answered with markers from
Luke Okupski,
Devin Lampron and
John Okupski to take a 3-1 lead after the opening quarter. Lampron's goal came on the man-up – the Stags' only EMO on the day – and was assisted by
Will Consoli.
Keegan Lynch provided the helper for
John Okupski's behind-the-back finish.
The momentum carried into the second quarter, where Lampron, Lynch and Consoli all scored in succession – with
Jake Gilbert adding an assist on the final tally – to run the lead to 6-1. The Bears got one back on a Ben Scandone marker, but the Stags took a comfortable 6-2 advantage into the break. Hrisch made six of his 13 saves in the second quarter to keep Brown in the rearview mirror.
For the third time in as many quarters, Fairfield conceded only one goal in the third frame. The Stags added four of their own in the period.
Rob Moore and
Luke Okupski each got one early in the stanza, and the Stags netted two in the final 18 seconds of the third. First,
Jason LaMay Jr. scored cutting across the field.
Daniel Davis won the ensuing faceoff and got the Stags on the run, ending with
Rory Thompson setting up Lynch for a dagger from the wing to run the lead to 10-3.
Luke Fisher tacked on his first goal as a Stag in the fourth quarter – the 168th of his career after an All-America tenure at Division III Denison – with Brown's Luke Delliciccchi getting two in the final frame to round out the final score at 11-5 in favor of Fairfield.
Hirsch's 13 saves are the second-most of his collegiate career and his .722 save percentage marks his best-ever in a 60-minute outing.
The defense in front of Hirsch was led by reigning USA Lacrosse Player of the Week
Julian Radossich, who scooped up five ground balls with one caused turnover.
Nate Livingston also picked up a pair of ground balls, and Hirsch himself vacated the cage to scoop a pair of grounders.
Offensively, Lynch finished with three points – one goal and two assists – while Lampron and
Luke Okupski each netted two goals to pace the balanced offense.
The Stags stayed on the attack courtesy of
Dylan Smith at the faceoff X, where the graduate student went 10-for-16 with six ground balls.
Up next, the Stags begin a three-game homestand on Wednesday, Feb. 19 with a 7 p.m. visit from Sacred Heart. Admission is free for all fans to all Fairfield Men's Lacrosse home games in the month of February.
