Rob Moore Scores Double OT Winner to Topple Sacred Heart, 13-12

Luke Okupski scores four in crosstown clash

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Rob Moore's goal with 1:50 remaining in the second overtime period lifted Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse to a 13-12 win over visiting Sacred Heart on Wednesday on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium. Luke Okupski scored four goals to power the Stags past the crosstown Pioneers.

With the win, Fairfield improves to 3-0 for the first time since 2012. Sacred Heart slips to 2-1 with its first setback of 2025. Both squads were unranked but receiving votes in this week's round of national polls. Fairfield's 2-0 start includes two wins over reigning conference champions – upending the 2024 Patriot League Champion Lehigh on Feb. 7 and knocking off the defending MAAC Champion Pioneers this afternoon.

The 66-minute contest was Fairfield's first overtime game of the fall. The Stags' 2024 campaign came to an end in OT in the CAA semifinals against Delaware. The Stags had not played multiple extra sessions since an 11-10 loss in double overtime at Yale in 2017. Fairfield's last 2OT win was a 2015 triumph over Delaware.

In today's game, Moore's golden goal made him the last of eight different Fairfield goal scorers as he started from X and wrapped around to tuck in the game-winner. The defense also played its part during the extra time, as Sacred Heart won the faceoff to begin both overtimes but finished the two frames with four turnovers and one shot (zero on goal).

Also guiding the offense, Luke Okupski scored four and also posted an assist to round out a five-point day, and Jake Gilbert netted a hat trick with one helper. The Stags also benefited from single tallies by Devin Lampron, Keegan Lynch, Jason LaMay Jr., Julian Radossich and Daniel Davis, who scored his first career goal off a faceoff win.

Lampron and Lynch also distributed one assist apiece.

Dylan Smith (7-20) and Davis (7-10) each won seven faceoffs for the Stags, as Fairfield was edged by a 16-14 count on the restart. Smith, Okupski and SSDM Andrew Kasten all won three ground balls in the midfield.

Fairfield's starting defensive trio combined for seven caused turnovers as Nate Livingston forced three while Radossich and Adams had two apiece. Radossich also nabbed four ground balls to go along with his transition goal.

Owen Hirsch earned the win in the cage with six saves in 66:10 of work.

John Murray and Tucker Spencer both netted hat tricks for Sacred Heart. Alex Pazienza made 14 saves protecting the Pioneers' cage and Luke Romanek took every faceoff for the visitors. He finished 16-for-30 with eight ground balls.

The Stags are back in action on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium on Saturday, Feb. 22 against visiting Manhattan. The 3:30 p.m. contest is the second half of a doubleheader that will see Fairfield Women's Lacrosse host Hofstra at noon. Admission is free for all fans to both ends of the twin bill.
