FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fresh off their 20th win of the season, the Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will look to try and keep the momentum when they travel to face the Manhattan Jaspers on Saturday at 2pm. Fairfield will be looking for their 15th-straight win which would improve their MAAC record to a perfect 15-0.
The Stags cruised past the Saint Peter's Peacocks in their last game as their defense held the Peacocks to just one point in the second quarter, the fewest of any Fairfield opponent this season. Fairfield allowed just 43 points, the 10th time this season Fairfield has held their opposition to under 50 points and the sixth time during the conference slate. The Stags still hold the top spot in scoring defense in the MAAC allowing just 54.2 points per game, the 11th-best number in the country.
Offensively, the Stags were led by a pair of road runners with
Meghan Andersen and
Raiana Brown both chipping in 17 points. Brown continued her hot-shooting streak as she went 6-for-7 from the field. The reigning MAAC Player of the Week is shooting 94 percent (17-for-18) over her last two games. She ranks 14th in the nation among active players with 2,233 career points.
Izabela Nicoletti Leite led the team with seven assists while committing just one turnover, increasing her MAAC-best assist-turnover ratio to 2.88, placing eighth in the nation. She also ranks 17th in Fairfield history with 321 career assists.
Manhattan is coming off a two-point loss to Merrimack, dropping their conference record to 5-8. Nitzan Amar is the team's leading scorer with 11.2 points per game while Leyla Ozturk controls the boards with a team-best 6.4 rebounds per game.
Fairfield will return to Leo D. Mahoney Arena and will Play 4 Kay when they host Rider on Thursday at 7pm.
