Stags Pull Away in Fourth Quarter in Win over Merrimack

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Cyanne Coe tied a career-high with 18 points and Kaety L'Amoreaux reached the 20-point marker for the second-straight game as the Fairfield University Women's Basketball team won their fourth-straight game with an 84-65 win over Merrimack at Leo D. Mahoney Arena. With the victory, the Stags move to 8-3 overall and 2-0 in MAAC play while winning their 17th-straight home game.

"I think we stayed poised to kind of rally in the fourth," Head Coach Carly Thibault-DuDonis said. "We're still searching for a complete game and to be a little more consistent. I thought we shared the ball well and played inside out well."

For the second-straight game, the Stags (8-3; 2-0 MAAC) used a long scoring spurt to put the game out of reach. This time, Fairfield tallied a 14-0 run to start the fourth quarter to turn a six-point lead into a 20-point advantage.

Four different Stags score during the game-deciding run, starting with a Meghan Andersen putback one minute into the quarter. L'Amoreaux would swish through a clutch 3-pointer from the wing and Milou van Vliet collected an impressive pass from Andersen and connected on a triple to put the score at 72-54. Coe capped the run with an inside bucket that tied her career-best.

In total, Coe went 8-for-10 from the field while also setting a career-high of four assists and tying her personal-best with four steals.

Fairfield's defensive intensity forced 21 Merrimack turnovers while scoring 23 points off of those miscues. L'Amoreaux, who entered the game as the MAAC leader in steals, added a team-high four in the contest.

On the offensive side, the Stags dished out 23 assists on just 13 turnovers. For the first time in her career, Andersen led the team in assists, recording a career-high seven.

L'Amoreaux led the Stags with 23 points and nine rebounds while going 5-for-9 from 3-point range. Over the last five games, L'Amoreaux has averaged 23.8 points per game while shooting 58 percent from the floor and an even 50 percent from deep.

The Stags connected on 11 3-pointers, the seventh-straight game they have reached double-digit triples.

Fairfield will have an eight-day break for the Christmas holiday before traveling to Manhattan on Monday, Dec. 21 at 7pm.
