Stags Top Rider to Start MAAC Play

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team officially tipped-off Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play with a 84-58 victory at Rider. Kaety L'Amoreaux once again paced the Stags in almost every category, leading the team with 25 points, six assists, and three steals. She also tie for the team lead with five rebounds.With the victory, the Stags won their seventh-straight MAAC opener and are now 46-1 against MAAC opponents since the start of the 2023 season. Fairfield also posted their 44th road win, the most in the nation.
 
"It's always a challenge to go on the road in conference so I'm proud to go get the first one," Head Coach Carly Thibault-DuDonis said. "We are still searching for a complete 40 minutes, but I do think we took a big step forward today."
 
The Stags broke the game open with a 16-0 run to end the first half, overcoming a one-point deficit and gaining a 15-point lead. L'Amoreaux started the spurt with a go-ahead layup to put the Stags ahead 28-27.
 
Fairfield would score on four-straight possessions with a Cyanne Coe layup and then five-straight points by Meghan Andersen. Sydni Scott swished through a triple in the final minute and L'Amoreaux capped the half with a buzzer beating basket.
 
Coe would score in Fairfield's first possession of the second half to end an 18-0 run. The Stags would lead by as many as 27 on a layup by Christina Pham and a traditional 3-point play by Janelle Brown.
 
The Stags netted 29 points in the second quarter, the most points in any quarter by the Stags this season.
 
Ten different Stags netted a point in the game led by L'Amoreaux's 25. Andersen was the other Stag to reach double figures with 18 on 6-for-11 shooting. Keyarah Gregory swished through her first career 3-pointer which turned into a four-point play.
 
Alli Campbell also recorded her first points as a Stag, registering seven.
 
Fairfield will return home to Leo D. Mahoney Arena to face Merrimack on Sunday at 2pm.
