EDISON, N.J. – After scoring a team-leading 18 points in Saturday's 97-83 win for Fairfield University Men's Basketball at Le Moyne,
Brandon Benjamin has been named the MAAC Rookie of the Week. Benjamin collects the conference-wide honor for the second time in his first month of action as a Stag.
Benjamin's 18 points at Le Moyne came on 7-for-11 shooting from the floor and a perfect 4-for-4 day at the stripe. He was the team leader in rebounds with eight and assists, dishing out four helpers from the post. Benjamin also blocked two shots in the 14-point road victory.
Six games into his collegiate career, Benjamin ranks second on the Stags with 12.7 points per game. He is also second in the MAAC with a .660 field goal percentage and second in rebounding, hauling in 8.8 boards per contest. Benjamin's field goal percentage is third in the nation among true freshmen, and he ranks eighth in rebounding among all first-year players nationally.
Saturday's win at Le Moyne moved Fairfield Men's Basketball to 4-2 on the season. The Stags return to action and return home to Leo D. Mahoney Arena on Wednesday, Nov. 26 to host Columbia at 7 p.m. The homestand also features a Sunday, Nov. 30 visit from New Hampshire.
