EDISON, N.J. – Fairfield University Women's Basketball junior guard
Kaety L'Amoreaux was named the Air Force Reserve MAAC Player of the Week after averaging 21.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 7.0 assists in an impressive showing at the WBCA Challenge in Las Vegas, Nev. The weekly award is L'Amoreaux's first career weekly honor.
"Kaety is one of the hardest workers I've ever coached, so it is no surprise that she is playing at such a high level," Head Coach
Carly Thibault-DuDonis said. "She has elevated her game to be an efficient point guard who not only scores at an effective rate, but is making good decisions with the ball of when to score and when to kick to open teammates. She has taken what the defense gives her, which shows her balance between almost 22 PPG and 7 APG in two games out in Vegas, not to mention her 7 RPG as well. She impacts the game in so many ways, and this is only the beginning for her!"
L'Amoreaux led the Stags in their win over the preseason favorites in the American Athletic Conference, South Florida as she neared a career-high with 28 points while also finishing with a team-high six assists. She scored nine-straight points for the Stags in the fourth quarter, extending Fairfield's lead to six.
She also connected on all 10 of her free throw attempts, extending her season streak to 15-straight, which at the time was the longest in the nation.
She filled out the box score again in the game against nationally-ranked North Carolina finishing with 15 points combined with eight assists and six rebounds.
For the season, the Preseason All-MAAC First Team selection leads the conference with 5.5 assists per game while ranking second with 19.0 points per contest and 2.8 triples per outing.
She also swished through seven 3-pointers in the week, including the 100th of her career. She became the 18th Stag all-time to hit triple digits.
L'Amoreaux and the Stags will have a week off before next taking the court in front of a sellout crowd full of local area school kids in the annual Kids' Day Out at Leo D. Mahoney Arena as the team faces off against New Haven on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 11am.
