Standout Debut Lands Brandon Benjamin as MAAC Rookie of the Week

The true freshman averaged 15.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game last week

EDISON, N.J. – After averaging 15.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game in his first two games with Fairfield University Men's Basketball, Brandon Benjamin has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week. Benjamin posted a double-double in his debut at Penn State and added 12 points and nine rebounds in Saturday's win at NJIT.

Benjamin's 19 points came on .813 (13-for-16) shooting from the field and .750 (4-for-5) from the free throw line. In Monday's outing at Penn State, he scored 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for his first career double-double. Benjamin is the only true freshman in the nation to post a double-double in a true road game this season. He also blocked two shots in 37 minutes against the Nittany Lions.

In his hometown of Newark on Saturday at NJIT, Benjamin made the most of his 18 minutes with 12 points on 5-for-5 shooting from the floor and 2-for-2 at the free throw line. He shared the team lead in rebounds with nine, pacing the Stags to a 54-35 advantage on the glass, and blocked a pair of shots in the 74-53 road victory.

Fairfield Men's Basketball (1-1) is back in action tonight – Monday, Nov. 10 – for a 7 p.m. tip-off at Seton Hall.
