Weekend Homestand Brings Marist, Siena to Mahoney Arena

Fairfield enters the weekend at 5-0 in the MAAC

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – After an unbeaten weekend on the road at Saint Peter's and Rider, Fairfield University Volleyball returns home to Leo D. Mahoney Arena to host Marist and Siena in MAAC action on Oct. 10-11. The weekend starts a four-match homestand for the Stags, who will also welcome Iona and Manhattan on Oct. 17-18.
 
Admission is free for all fans to all regular season home matches this season.
 
Fairfield University Stags (11-4, 5-0 MAAC)
  • The Stags ran their winning streak to six matches and stayed unbeaten in the MAAC with back-to-back 3-1 wins last weekend at Saint Peter's and Rider.
  • Fairfield and Niagara – who will not meet each other until Nov. 7 at Mahoney Arena – are the lone MAAC unbeatens remaining at 5-0.
  • The Stags boast the top blocking team in the conference with 2.20 blocks per set. Individually, Harlan Wyche (1.13) and Maya Walker (1.03) rank second and fourth, respectively, at the net.
  • Offensively, Fairfield has been led by a balanced attack featuring six primary hitters averaging at least 1.43 kills per set. Allie Elliott leads that corps at 2.79 kills per frame.
  • Fairfield is hitting a MAAC-best .262 piloted by the setting duo of Abby Jandro and Zofia Sykut. Maya Walker heads that list with a conference-leading .398 hitting percentage, good for 40th nationally among qualifying hitters.
 
Marist University Red Foxes (6-11, 4-1 MAAC)
  • The Red Foxes are off to a 4-1 start to conference play, and most recently hosted and defeated Holy Cross in non-league action to run their winning streak to five matches.
  • Marist has not played a MAAC road match to date. The Red Foxes are 0-4 in true road contests and 1-10 in all matches outside of McCann Arena.
  • During the non-league slate, the Foxes were swept by both West Virginia and UConn. The Stags fell in five sets to the Mountaineers and the Huskies.
  • Reigning MAAC Player of the Week Sara Dasic leads Marist with 3.09 kills per set on .258 hitting.
  • Mallory Reck – the most recent MAAC Rookie of the Week – adds 2.50 kills and 1.91 digs per stanza.
 
Herd for a Cure
  • T-shirts will be sold and donations will be collected at Friday's match to benefit the Norma Pfriem Breast Center. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to promote breast cancer awareness.
 
All-Time Series (Fairfield leads 50-10)
  • The Stags and Red Foxes only met once last season, with Fairfield taking a 3-0 decision at Mahoney Arena to improve to 50-10 in the all-time series.
  • Fairfield has not swept a home-and-home season series with Marist since 2021; the teams split the series in both the 2022 and 2023 campaigns.
 
Siena University Saints (7-11, 3-2 MAAC)
  • Siena swept its most recent MAAC weekend with home wins over Iona and Manhattan but most recently dropped a 3-1 non-conference match on Tuesday at UAlbany.
  • The Saints and Stags shared only one non-conference opponent; both teams swept CCSU prior to the start of league play.
  • Doga Diraz heads the Siena attack with 3.63 kills per set on .262 hitting. Gabrielle Wire adds 3.03 per frame at a .205 clip.
  • The Saints have also scored consistently from the end line, where four players have landed more than 20 aces to date.
 
All-Time Series (Fairfield Leads 53-17)
  • Fairfield has won 23 consecutive matches against Siena to break open the series at 53-17 all-time.
  • The classic MAAC rivalry includes 16 meetings in the MAAC postseason, with the Stags holding a 10-6 advantage in those contests.
 
RPI Notes
  • The first edition of the NCAA RPI was released on Monday, Oct. 6. The Stags rank 108 out of 348 Division I teams.
  • The Stags challenged top 100 teams in the non-conference slate, including wins over Towson (79) and Yale (97). West Virginia was Fairfield's top opponent in terms of RPI, currently checking in at 29 thanks to a 13-2 overall record.
  • The second-highest ranked MAAC team in the RPI is Rider at 203.

  • The Stags are back on the George Bisacca Court at Mahoney Arena next weekend to host Iona and Manhattan on Oct. 17-18.
  • The Gaels are 1-4 in the MAAC with Niagara and Canisius coming to New Rochelle this weekend, while the Jaspers will be seeking their first conference win against the Western New York squads.
