FAIRFIELD, Conn. – With a dominate victory at the Fairfield Invitational behind them, the Fairfield University men's and women's swimming and diving teams will begin the dual meet portion of their schedule beginning on Saturday.
The Stags will host Bryant University at the RecPlex Pool, the first of 10 dual meets this season. Fairfield will host just two more of these dual meets, welcoming Marist University on October 25 and Iona University on January 17. The latter date will also serve as the program's senior day ceremony.
The two teams combined to win 25 of the 32 swimming events last Saturday afternoon, in addition to picking two more victories in the diving events last Friday. The Stags swept the top three spots in 11 events on their way to winning the men's and women's overall scoring. Freshman Natasha De Pree set a new school standard in the 800 free with a time of 9:06.91 while
Balazs Ament rewrote the 200 breaststroke record with a time of 2:17.66, the first time the duo competed for the Stags.
Freshman
Andrew Nathe earned the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men's swimming rookie of the week for his effort during the Fairfield Invitational. The first-year swimmer secured a first-place finish in both the 50 free (23.42) and the 100 free (53.13). He also was a member of the winning 400 free relay group that completed the event in 3:37.58.
Bryant University gets its season underway this weekend, the first of five dual road meets. The Bulldogs will host Binghampton University next weekend in their home opener, one of four home meets this season. The Bryant men's swimming and diving team posted a 6-5 overall record last season while the women's swimming and diving squad won eight of its 11 meets. The Bulldogs have 15 freshmen and three transfers adding support to last season's success.
Following Saturday's meet, the Stags will travel to Providence College for their first road meet of the season. The teams will return to campus to host MAAC foe Marist University one week later on October 25.
